Evaluation

Evaluation of my magazine:

The name of my magazine is called "Groove-Zik"; it is aimed at teenage music lovers of Hip Hop. I didn't use any costumes for the images in this magazine - I only had a certain style for each set of characters. With Paige and Ryan, I asked them to wear casual, yet stylistic clothes which would portray Hip Hop. So this included:
  • Studded Leather Jackets
  • Bomber Jackets
  • Different Colour Leggings
  • Converse Trainers
  • Denim Jeans
  • Camp Clothing.
With Stacey, I made her go for a emo/rock-chick look:
  • Leather Jacket
  • Black Creepers
  • Skeleton Bones Leggings
  • Hair Let Out
  • Rocky Accessories (Skull Rings Etc.)
With Neil and Tabitha, I advised them to wear casual clothes:
  • Dr Martens
  • Normal Trainers
  • Casual clothes (Mickey Mouse Jumper, Ordinary Jumper Etc.)
I didn't used the a chair for Stacey to sit in, and the stage with the black backdrop was used for Neil's and Tabitha's photoshoot. I used our Media classroom for Ryan's and Paige's photoshoot, because it had great lighting which made the pictures look brighter and flawless. In the end, I erased the background using the magic eraser, as it was unnecessary. I made them all do different poses, which I needed for each different story within my magazine. This all comes from the reseach and analysis I did with other magazines, which helped me look for the perfect images and layout for my magazine. I used different types of font for each page:
  • Front Cover - Different font and sizes, to fit the page as well as colours.
  • Contents Page - I used a whole colour for my background, and different colours for the images and text boxes. The writing was the same throughout.
  • Double-Page Spread - I used a big group picture of Ryan, Paige, Rochelle and Samina, as the background for the Double-Paged Spread, and faded it so it looked professional and eye-catching. It made the writing and pictures stand-out. Also, the writing is a size 12 for the interview.
My media product represents Hip Hop groups, as it is a Hip Hop music magazine overall. It talks and informs its audience about the latest updates on Hip Hop music, such as new artists and the social lives of big artists. Huge music industries such as The Island Def Jam Music Groups, Young Money Cash Money Records, Roc Nation, Atlantic Records Etc. will distribute my magazine, as they're the top Hip Hop record labels. As mentioned before, music-loving teenagers are the target audience for my magazine. I made up my own group of Hip Hop artists, role-playing as alread-famous ones :
  • Stacey - Nicki Minaj
  • Neil and Tabitha - Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.
This attracts my audience, as they are rising stars. Also, the front cover has many interesting stories, which teenagers in modern days, want to know about. One of the main things I have learnt from producing my magazine, is the usage of Photoshop - I had no idea how to use Photoshop, but after using many different tools repeatedly and by experimenting, I now feel very confortable with it. Furthermore, I undertsand how to blog my research, analysis and evaluation, which helps me understand the properties of Blogger.

When I started my preliminary product, I didn't have any idea of what I had to do, even after my plannings. The first step of improvement that I felt, was messing around with Photoshop and trying out different tools to edit pictures. Thereafter, I got the hang of it. I asked for improvements and guidance from my teacher, and fellow peers also assessed my blog and adivsed improvements. Finally, I understood what I had to do, what the magazine had to be structured as, thus helping me choose my layout, font, font sizes and colours. I have learnt quite a lot, from using Blogger to using Photoshop and making a final product.
